Land Rovers

What is it about landies that seem to bring out the kid in you,  is it because they are like Meccano , I now have 3 now , my original 1958 series one 88" USK690 which I used for daily transport I bought around 10 years ago  , its has stood for a few years and I started stripping it down in 2001 this landie is now undergoing a serious restoration and will be the first one I finish

I also have a 1956 86" Series One which I originally bought for spares some years ago much to the dismay of Shirley , when I got it home I didn't have the heart to break it as the parts that were on it were in really good condition and so restoration commenced although this stopped when we moved house around 5 years ago

A Series 2a which was my brother in laws is also in my possession which he gave me for the kids to mess around with, some work was needed to the clutch , brakes and some welding work on the bulkhead mostly in the foot well area , most of this has been done on the drivers side with more welding needing to be done on the passengers side at some time

The Series 2a is now running again , its had quite a bit of use with James and William learning to drive around the field etc but the chassis is now showing serious sign of wear and tear despite some Heath Robinson patching up around the front chassis legs , the rear half of the chassis has deteriorated and the rear spring hangers have all but disappeared with the rough abuse from the kids driving it over the rough land

We plan to purchase a new chassis at some time in the future and a serious strip down and rebuild on the solid chassis will be carried out by James and William but as my workshop is currently full of 2 landies and a rally car undergoing work not to mention the Ford Dexter Tractor in the yard outside the workshop currently seized I think it will have to wait

My climbing partner Dennis has bought a Modern Defender with the TD5 Engine and have to say I am impressed with this vehicle as they are much more user friendly than the old Series , at some point soon he intends to fit a GKN overdrive with my help

I have a desire to build a Lightweight landie to use for offloading on RTV's etc with my son William we are lucky to live close to Beeley moor where some clubs hold several RTV meets a year , there's something about the look of the Lightweight !!

There will be much more to come on the Landrover pages as quite a lot of work is going on in this area as always I am looking for some spares , I am also a member of the excellent series one club and am lucky to live not to far away from Paddock Spares in Matlock
