Ford Escort Mexico

My first car was a MKI Escort 1300E but I always wanted a MK1 Mexico and when my MK2 Escort was taken off the road to build into my current stage rally car I had the perfect opportunity , I promised the wife that this was not another restoration project "Honest" and this led to the purchase off a 1973 Ford MK1 Mexico for my everyday use

The Mexico had been dry stored for a number of years in a lockup garage and need a considerable amount of work consisting of mostly welding including new inner sills and front foot well floor panels which my local auto factors had in stock!!! amazing . Mechanically the car was complete and needed a good service apart from the brakes which were badly seized and corroded and had to be replaced

The front and rear suspension were rebuilt to road rally specification using world cup Bilstiens and springs , twin cam anti roll bar , rear adjustable Spax shock absorbers CD6 springs Janspeed exhaust and Cibies etc

The Mex was real fun to drive not particularly fast it just feels quick and is real chuck able round the lanes but after 2 years solid use and the need to travel around the country regularly due to new employment duties the Mex was showing signs of wear particularly body work and inner wings . I purchased a Golf GTI to replace the Mex as my every day car and not the Mex sits in an old barn waiting to be restored some day !!!!!

Although my youngest son Willaim who is now 12 keeps asking me if i will give him the Mexico as he wants one to restore i have told him to keeps his hands off as its mine all MINE :-)
